‘Sacred Land II’
50 x 61cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang.
This work represents our connection to the land and Country. The very first footprints on this country were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our relationship with Country is sacred, and is interconnected with our culture, family and kinship, traditions, songlines, languages, and physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing. The lines and detailed patterns across the artwork symbolise songlines and an aerial view of Country. The warm natural colours symbolise the ground, the ochre of the land. “There is no part of this place that was not, is not, cared for, loved by an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nation. There are no trees, rivers, hills, stars that were not someone’s kin” – from ‘Living on stolen land’ by Ambelin Kwaymullina.
